Schools Outdoors

Adventurous outdoor education is on the decline in schools because School Board of Trustees are nervous about increasing liability and the rising cost of outdoor education. So ECOED  initiated the 'Schools Outdoors Hawke's Bay' programme.

The objective of the Schools Outdoors Hawke’s Bay programme is to support and develop adventurous outdoor education and environmental education in Hawke’s Bay. To date, with the support of the Endeavour Community Trust (formerly Heretaunga Community Trust), ECOED has provided $333,000 of subsidy to schools for Year 7 & 8 outdoor education, engaging 4,098 students. in a total of over 18,425 student days of learning in the outdoors.

ECOED has since moved forward to the development of the Wilderness Education Base.
